Braintoll
Learn before you scroll.
Braintoll puts a small flashcard toll in front of the apps that eat your attention. Reveal the answer, rate your recall, and mark enough cards Easy to get through — miss a scroll, gain a memory.

Keep my attention
The scroll isn't a decision. It's a reflex.
Blockers that just say "no" get uninstalled by week two. Braintoll doesn't fight the reflex — it interrupts it with something worth doing instead: a few seconds of recall, on your own terms.
It isn't a plain app blocker, and it isn't a flashcard app you have to remember to open — it's both, triggered at the exact moment you'd otherwise start scrolling.
How it works
Four steps, no willpower required.
- STEP 1
Choose apps to toll
Pick the apps that pull you in without thinking — social, games, whatever it is for you.
- STEP 2
Build your library
Add cards manually, start from a preset, or let AI generate a set from a topic, pasted text, or a file.
- STEP 3
Get interrupted
Open a blocked app and Braintoll shows one card from your library instead.
- STEP 4
Pay the toll
Reveal the answer and rate your recall. Mark enough cards Easy — you choose how many — to unlock temporary access.
Core feature
Good sets, without the busywork.
Writing cards by hand doesn't scale to a whole textbook. Give Braintoll a topic, some pasted text, or a file, and it drafts a complete set sized to fit the material — no card count to guess at.
- Topic
- Pasted text
- PDF / PPTX / DOCX
Every draft is fully editable, and nothing saves until you say so — regenerate as many times as you like.

Features
Everything the toll needs, nothing it doesn't.
AI-generated sets
Give it a topic, pasted text, or a PDF/PPTX/DOCX and AI drafts a full set, sized to fit the material. Review and edit before you save — no blank-page problem.
Block any app
Choose exactly which installed apps require a toll. Nothing else is monitored.
Spaced repetition
Reveal each answer and rate your recall — Again, Hard, Good, or Easy. Due cards resurface on a schedule so recall actually sticks.
Weekly schedule
Set active hours so the toll only applies when you actually want the friction.
Private by design.
Blocking uses only the selected Android app package names you choose — never messages, never screen content. Topic, text, or documents are sent to the generation service only when you explicitly ask AI to create a set.

Android first. iOS is coming.
Braintoll's blocker relies on capabilities Android exposes and iOS doesn't. Android ships first on Google Play; a native iOS blocker is a separately scoped effort that will take longer to get right.

FAQ
Common questions
What is Braintoll?
Braintoll is a mobile app for Android (iOS coming later) that puts a short flashcard review in front of the apps you tend to open without thinking. Pick the apps you want to interrupt, build a small library of learning cards — written by hand or generated by AI — and Braintoll asks you to review a few and rate your recall before it lets you through: pay the “toll.”
How do I stop mindlessly opening apps?
Willpower alone rarely works, because opening the app is a reflex, not a decision — by the time you notice, you’re already scrolling. What tends to help is a deliberate pause at the exact moment of opening: a lock screen, a delay, or a small task that requires a moment of focus. Braintoll uses the third approach — a quick flashcard review — so the interruption is useful instead of just an obstacle.
What is spaced repetition?
Spaced repetition is a study technique that schedules reviews right before you’re likely to forget something, instead of at fixed intervals — cards you know well come back less often, cards you struggle with come back sooner. Braintoll uses this to schedule your library automatically: your Again, Hard, Good, or Easy rating during each toll decides when that card resurfaces next.
How does the toll actually work?
Open a blocked app and Braintoll shows a card from your library instead. Reveal the answer, then rate your own recall: Again, Hard, Good, or Easy. Only Easy ratings count toward the toll — anything else puts the card back in the queue for another pass. You choose how many Easy ratings are needed and how many minutes of access you get afterward; “Keep my attention” returns you home instead, any time.
What if I keep rating cards Again or Hard?
Nothing bad happens — the card just goes back into the queue for another pass in the same session, and you keep reviewing until enough cards are rated Easy. There’s no penalty, streak reset, or lockout for a slow recall; Braintoll only tracks how many cards you’ve marked Easy toward the current toll.
Can I change how many cards I need per toll?
Yes, any time. “Easy answers per toll” and the length of temporary access afterward are both adjustable in the app’s toll settings, so you can make the toll quick and light or slow and deliberate — whatever keeps it useful for you.
Where do my learning cards come from?
AI generation is one of three equal ways to build a set — alongside manual entry and built-in presets — and it’s the fastest: give it a topic, pasted text, or a PDF/PPTX/DOCX file, and Braintoll drafts a full set sized to fit the material, no need to specify a card count. Review and edit the draft before saving, so the deck stays yours.
Does Braintoll read my messages or screen content?
No. On Android, Braintoll’s accessibility monitoring recognizes only the package names of the apps you’ve chosen to block — never message content, screen content, or browsing activity. The only content that leaves your device is what you explicitly submit for AI card generation.
Is Braintoll like Anki?
Similar underneath — both use spaced repetition with an Again/Hard/Good/Easy rating scale. The difference is when you’re prompted: Anki is something you open on your own, while Braintoll triggers automatically when you open an app you’ve chosen to block, so review happens at the exact moment you’d otherwise be scrolling, instead of requiring you to remember to study.
How is Braintoll different from Screen Time or Digital Wellbeing?
Screen Time and Digital Wellbeing mostly show usage stats or let you set a hard daily limit that’s easy to snooze or ignore. Braintoll doesn’t set a limit — it puts a small, repeatable cost in front of every open: a flashcard toll you pay with Easy-rated recall, every time, not just once a day.
Is Braintoll free?
Yes. The free plan blocks one app and includes 3 AI card generations a month, with unlimited manual and preset cards. Premium removes the app limit and raises AI generation to up to 10 a day (30 a month).
When is Braintoll available on iOS?
Android is the first platform and launches on Google Play shortly. iOS doesn’t expose the same system-level app-blocking capability Android does, so a native iOS blocker is a separately scoped effort that will take longer — join the waitlist to be notified the moment it’s ready.
